Micro Investment Initiative International (Mi) is a small 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which focuses on leveraging existing NGO infrastructure and student networks to make direct microfinance loans to traditionally under served entrepreneurs in the developing world in an end to end loan process.
The organization is a 100% student-run and staffed by college and high school student volunteers. Mi3 offers no compensation to any of its members and Mi3 does not add administrative costs to our loans. Our members choose to devote their time to working with Mi3 out of a desire to positively impact the lives of underprivileged individuals and gain valuable business experience at the same time.
Mi3 currently runs microfinance in Cambodia, Haiti, and Jamaica, with projects in process in South Africa, East Timor, and Brazil. Our largest project is a set of about 300 biannually rotated loans working with a group of women entrepreneurs on the island of Ile a Vache, Haiti.
Mi3 has been an evolving organization as it has progressed over the years. Our focus is on simple, efficient, and effective loans that make a difference where traditional lenders do not reach and students can gain as much learning from the process of making the loans as recipients gain from receiving them.
